John Bachelder was contracted to use his research and write a history of the Battle of Gettysburg. It took some time, and (if you want the full story, Eric Wittenberg and Ms. Audrey Ladd write extensively about it in this new reprint). It sat unpublished for more than a century.
Like The Bachelder Papers, Audrey and her late husband David found this manuscript, edited it, and it was published by Morningside in 1997--once again in a very small run. It is more than 800 pages. It incorporates his own thoughts, letters, many official reports, and more.
