Smith and Smith (no relation) met in Afghanistan during their deployment in 2010-2011, where they started joking about the various lifestyle changes necessary overseas. Specialist Paul Smith spent a short but influential four years in the active army with 1-10 Cavalry out of Ft. Carson, Colorado. Shortly after leaving the military he joined a civilian contracting company to continue serving the best way he knew overseas: in the dirt, with all of the knowledge he acquired during his military career.
SFC Kristina Smith, a native of Marshalltown, Iowa, joined the Army in June 1996. She is currently serving as platoon sergeant stationed at Fort Drum, New York. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Distinguished Leadership Graduate and the 21st Theater Support Command Soldier of the Year 2001 in U.S. Army Europe, and has deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
